(a) If the aggrieved fire fighter's or police officer's immediate supervisor is the department head, the steps prescribed by Sections 143.128 and 143.129 are combined. The department head shall meet with the aggrieved fire fighter or police officer and may not appoint a representative.
(b) A department head, with the approval of the commission, may change the procedure prescribed by Sections 143.128 and 143.129 to reflect a change in a department's chain of command.
